Abyssal Plain Great flat sediment - covered areas of ocean floor
Continental Shelf The edge of a continent that lies under the ocean
Continental Slope The slope between the outer edge of the continental shelf and the deep ocean floor
Convergent Plate Boundary A tectonic boundary where two plates are moving toward eachother
Divergent Plate Boundary A tectonic boundary where two plates are moving away from each other
Mid-Ocean Ridge A seafloor mountain system formed by plate tectonics
Ocean Trench Long narrow depressions on the seafloor
Seamount An underwater mountain with steep sides rising from the seafloor
Sounding The measurement as a function of altitude
Subduction When an oceanic plate runs into a continental plate and slides beneath it.
ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) an unoccupied underwater robot that is connected to a ship by a series of cables
