advocacy nurses role in supporting clients by ensuring that they are properly informed, that their rights are respected, and that they are the proper level of care.
informed consent legal process by which a client has given written permission for a procedure or treatment to be preformed.
negligence practice or misconduct that does not meet expected standards of care and places the client at risk for injury.
defamation false communication or communication with careless disregard for the truth with the intent to injure an individual's reputation.
malpractice failure of person with professional training to act in a reasonable and prudent manner.
lateral violence also known as horizontal violence/abuse. it occurs between individuals who are at the same level in an organization, such as: verbal abuse, undermining activities, sabotage, gossip, ostracism.
incivility an action that is rude, intimidating, and insulting.
beneficence care that is in the best interest of the client
nonmaleficence nurse's obligation to avoid causing harm to the patient.
fidelity keeping one's promise to the client about care that was offered.
veracity the nurse's duty to tell the truth
autonomy the ability of the client to make personal decisions, even when those decisions may not be in the client's best interest
