| malpractice | failure of person with professional training to act in a reasonable and prudent manner. |
| lateral violence | also known as horizontal violence/abuse. it occurs between individuals who are at the same level in an organization, such as: verbal abuse, undermining activities, sabotage, gossip, ostracism. |
| incivility | an action that is rude, intimidating, and insulting. |
| beneficence | care that is in the best interest of the client |
| nonmaleficence | nurse's obligation to avoid causing harm to the patient. |
| fidelity | keeping one's promise to the client about care that was offered. |
| veracity | the nurse's duty to tell the truth |
| autonomy | the ability of the client to make personal decisions, even when those decisions may not be in the client's best interest |
