QuestionAnswer
Define Evaporation Evaporation is the process where liquid water molecules are given energy(normally heat from the sun) and they then have enough energy to change into a gas
Define Runoff The excess water that does not sink/absorb into the ground, and flows along the surface until it finds its way into a creek, river etc
Define Transpiration Transpiration occurs when plants take up liquid water from the soil and release water vapour into the air from their leaves
Define Precipitation Precipitation is another name for rain. When the water vapour in the air condenses to make clouds and the clouds can no longer hold the water it falls to the ground as rain
Define Condensation Condensation is when water vapour(gas) turns into a liquid form - as clouds in the atmosphere.
Define Infiltration Infiltration is the process of water entry into the soil through the earth's surface. The water soaks into the ground.
Define Atmosphere The global system that contains a mixture of gases surrounding the planet
Define Hydrosphere The global system that contains water in all its forms: ice, water vapour, liquid water in the atmosphere, oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, soils and ground water; eg. Pacific Ocean, Amazon River, Greenland ice sheet
Define Biosphere The global system that contains living things of all shapes and sizes; eg.humans, sea turtles, gum trees, plants, bacteria
Define Geosphere The global system that contains the Earth's metallic core, all the solid rock, molten rock, soil and sediments.
Put the following in order of highest Albedo to lowest albedo:Snow, Asphalt, green grass. snow, green grass then asphalt
What is El Nino and La Nina? El Nina and La Nina are weather patterns that have a major impact on global weather patterns.
What is the water cycle? The water cycle is our planet’s way of recycling water. It is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth
What is albedo? Albedo is the amount of radiation of all wavelengths that different surfaces reflect.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.
