Scientific Method

Part of Intro to Biology

QuestionAnswer
What is the First step to the scientific Method (?) -The first step is to utilize your five senses in order to observe your surroundings and create one or two questions in response
What is the Second step to the Scientific Method (?) -The second step is to form a hypothesis, or a statement made in advance, predicting the results that will come out of testing the hypothesis
What is required of a hypothesis(?) It must be testable where evidence supporting, or not supporting the claim can be acquired, it can't be 100% proven beyond doubt,
What is the Third Step to the Scientific Method (?) -You must form an experiment by testing a hypothesis or prediction and gathering data under controlled conditions
What are the needs of an experiment(?) -Must compare a control group with an experimental group, both groups must be identical except for one factor, (the independent variable, and observations/measurements are taken for a particular factor (the dependent variable)-affected by independent
Qualitative data -Measured/Observed information that is not numbers
Quantitative data -Measured/Observed information that involves numbers
Sampling -Technique of using a sample or a small part to represent the entire population
What is the fourth step of the Scientific Method (?) -It's organizing data or the process of placing observations and measurement (data) in order Ex. Graphs, tables, or maps
What else is there to the fourth step of the Scientific Method(?) Analyzing the data: collected and controlled data is to be analyzed (is data reliable and does it support the initial hypothesis?
What is the fifth step to the Scientific Method(?) Conclusions, which are made based on facts, gathered from the study of experiment, and supports your hypothesis but must be re-testable
What is the sixth step to the Scientific Method(?) Scientists share the results of their studies with others and may publish them in scientific journals or meeting s
What should a scientist be? Unbiased,, shouldn't temper with their data, should only share tested & proven ideas

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
