Hematopoiesis Production and development of blood cells
Periosteum The cells covering the cortex are called lining cells or compact bone, and protect the bone from penetrating by circulating blood cells and other components of circulation(outline cover of bone)
Osteoblasts cells that synthesize and lay down bone then attract calcium and phosphates to strengthen the bone
Osteoclasts Reabsorb bone in constant process of bone formation and breakdown
Osteocytes Special osteoblasts that sense and respond to bone pressure and bending in order to direct the process of bone remodeling
Ligaments tough fibers that bind the ends of bones together
Tendons Fibrous bands that connect bone to its accompanying muscles, allowing the bone to move when a muscle contracts or relaxes
