The Cell System
| Term | Definition |

| Organism | A living thing. |
| Cell | The basic unit of a structure and function in living things. |
| Unicellular | Made of a single cell. |
| Multicellular | Consisting of many cells (has many cells basically.) |
| Stimulus | Any change or signal in the environment that can make any organism react in some way. |
| Response | An action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus. |
| Spontaneous Generation | The mistaken idea that living things arise from non-living sources. |
| Homeostasis | The condition in which an organism's internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment. |
| Characteristics | A feature that helps to identify something. |
| Microscope | An instrument that makes small objects look larger. |
| Cell Theory | A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things. |
| Distinguish | 1) To manage to recognize something you can barely see. 2) To point out a difference. |
| Growth | Size or stage of development. |
| Hand Lens | A magnifying glass designed to be held in the hand. |
| Magnification | To increase the apparent size of an object. |
| Reproduce | To reproduce it's kind, as in an organism; bear offspring. |
| Energy | The ability to do work or cause change. |
| Waste | Anything left over or not of use. |
