Organism | A living thing |
Cell | The basic unit of structure and function in living things |
Unicellular | Made of a single cell |
Stimulus | Any change or signal in the environment that can make an organism react in some way |
Response | An action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus |
Spontaneous Generation | The mistaken idea that living things arise from nonliving sources |
Homeostasis | The condition in which an organism's internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment |
Characteristics | A feature that helps to identify something |
Microscope | An instrument that makes small objects look larger |
Cell Theory | A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things |
Distinguish | 1) to manage to recognize something you can barely see 2) to point out a difference |
Growth | Size or stage of development |
Hand Lens | A magnifying glass designed to be held in the hand |
Magnification | To reproduce its kind, as in an organism; bear offspring |
Energy | The ability to do work, or cause change |
Waste | Anything left over or not of use |
