| Organism | A living thing |
| Cell | The basic unit structure and function of living things; a building block |
| Multicellular | Consisting of multiple cells; animals |
| Unicellular | Consisting of one cell; bacteria |
| Stimulus | Any change or signal in the environment that can make an organism react in some way; an event |
| Response | An action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus; an emotion or reaction to events |
| Spontaneous generation | The mistaken idea that living things arise from nonliving sources |
| Homeostatis | The condition in which an organism's internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment |
| Characteristics | A feature that helps identify something; hair, environment, body, lifestyle |
| Microscope | An instrument that makes small objects look bigger |
| Cell theory | A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things |
| Distinguish | To manage or recognize something you can barely see; to point out a difference |
| Growth | Size or stage of development; age related growth, artificial growth, etc. |
| Hand lens | A magnifying glass meant to be hand-held |
| Magnification | To increase the apparent size of an object |
