Levels of Organization in an Organism

| Cell | the basic structure and functional unit of living organisms |
| Tissue | a mass of similar cells that perform a specialized function |
| Organ | a collection of similar tissues joined together into a structure that performs a specialized function |
| Organ System | a collection of organs that work together to perform a specialized function |
| Organism | a self-contained living thing |
| Organelle | a membrane-bound structure inside a cell that performs a specialized function |
| Atom | the smallest particle of an element |
| Compound | a thing that is composed of two or more elements |
| Structure | An organism’s body plan, or the way its parts are arranged |
| Function | The job or process that an organism’s structure carries out |
