Characteristics of Living Things

| Photosynthesis | The process by which plants algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to make food |
| Producer | An organism that can make its own food by using energy from its surroundings |
| Asexual Reproduction | Reproductive involving only one parent to produce offspring that is genetically identical to the parent |
| Decomposer | An organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of a dead organism or animal wastes and consuming or absorbing the nutrients |
| Consumer | An organism that eats other organisms or organic matter |
| Eukaryotes | An organism made up of cells that contain a nucieus |
| Heredity | The passing on of genetic traits from parent to offspring |
| Metabolism | The sum of all processes that occur in an organism |
| Response | An action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus |
| Sexual Reproduction | Reproduction involving two parents to produce offspring that share traits from both parents |
| Prokaryotes | An organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nucleus |
| Cell | The smallest unit that can perform all life processes, covered by a membrane and contain DNA |
| Stimulus | Anything that can cause a reaction or change in an organism or any part of an organism |
| Homeostasis | The maintenance of a constant internal state in a changing environment |
