Be Made of One or More Cells All living things are made of at least one cell. Cells are the smallest unit of organization of an organism.
Reproduce For life to continue, organisms must replace themselves, and this process is called reproduction.
Grow and Develop All organisms begin their lives as a single cell. Over time, these organisms grow and take on the characteristics of their species.
Use and Obtain Energy Energy is important to organisms because it powers life processes. It provides every organism with the ability to grow, reproduce, and carry out life functions.
Respond to Stimulus An external stimulus will cause a response from a living thing. Responses are the reactions to the external stimulus.
Maintains Homeostasis The regulation of an organism’s internal environment to maintain balance is called homeostasis.
Evolve and Adapt Simply stated, evolution is change over time. One way that evolution occurs is through the natural selection of adaptations.
