Scientific Method
| Term | Definition |

| question | what you want to find out, research to narrow it down to a “yes/no” or “one or the other” type of answer |
| hypothesis | a statement predicting the answer to your question. If, (insert independent variable) then, (dependent variable) |
| procedures | a plan to find the answer to your question written in steps. |
| independent variable | what you change in each test in your experiment. |
| dependent variable | your data, what you discover as a result of the change made. |
| constant | an element that remains unchanged used as a point of comparison against which other test results are measured |
| control | part of your experiment that represents how things would occur if there were no changes. How things naturally occur. |
| quantitative observation | measurements taken while observing |
| qualitative observation | observations that can not be measured and must be described. |
| results | a summary of the data |
| conclusion | backing up inferences with facts to explain the outcome of an experiment |
