DNA viruses

QuestionAnswer
What are the 6 families of DNA viruses that we will be looking at
What characteristics will we be looking for? or how can the families be grouped by Form of DNA, presence of envelope, and capsid type
What are the four types of DNA viruses
ds linear DNA with envelope. what are the shapes and species of virus complex capsid: poxviridae icosahedral capsid: herpesviridae
ds circular DNA, envelope presence? shape? species? nonenvelope: icosahedral capsid: Papillomaviridae
ss linear DNA, envelope presence? shape? species? non-enveloped: icosahedral capsid: parvoviridae
ss and ds circular DNA, envelope presence? shape? species? complementary strand has two loose ends, so considered linear enveloped, icosahedral capsid: Hepadnaviridae
ds linear DNA without envelope, shape? species? icosahedral capsid: Adenoviridae
What disease does poxyviridae cause? draw the shape smallpox
What is synonymous with smallpox variola major (deadly) and variola minor (less infectious), infects internal organs causing fever, malaise, and delirium, moves via the blood to the skin causing lesions
Herpesviridae causes what type of disease? Draw. Human herpes viruses HHV's, unique because has unique area called teguments that contain different virial proteins. 8 total herpes viruses
HHV1 oral herpes primarily, and ocular herpes, most humans are lifetime carriers and are usually asymptomatic. cause mouth blisters
HHV2 genital herpes primarily, more active, and neonatal herpes
HHV3 varicella-zoster virus. varicella is chickenpox. varicella hides in nerve cells and reemerge as zoster or shingles
Neonatal herpes infection that occurs during birthing process
Adenoviridae, draw has long spike proteins, ds dna, no envelope. attachement proteins on capsid itself. associated with common cold, may cause conjunctivitus
papillomaviridae benign wart causing viruses, has 20 sides, double stranded circular DNA, genital warts associates with increased risk of cells because can cause dysregulated cell growth
Hepadnaviridae is also associated with what term Hepatitis B viruses (attacks liver)
What is the structure of Hepadnaviridae? can be circular, or long and extended
What is the sign or symptoms of Hepadnaviridae virus liver is responsible for filtration, if attacked can lead to jaundice
Parvoviruses? what is the structure
What disease does parvovirus cause erythema infectiosum, associated to childhood disease
