| solution | Forms when a solute dissolves in a solvent. |
| concentrated | A solution that contains a large amount of solute. |
| solute | A substance which dissolves in a solvent. |
| filtration | The process of passing a mixture through a filter to remove solid particles. |
| soluble | A substance that is able to dissolve. |
| filtrate | The liquid which has passed through a filter. |
| solvent | The liquid in which a solute dissolves. |
| saturated | A solution which can’t have any more solute dissolved in it. |
| dilute | A solution that contains a small amount of solute. |
| evaporation | When a liquid becomes a gas. This leaves behind any solutes. |
| insoluble | A substance that is not able to be dissolved. |
| distillation | The process of evaporating and then condensing a liquid. |
| residue | The solid substance left behind on the filter. |
| pigment | A coloured substance. |
| chromatography | The process of separating the different pigments in a mixture. |
