What are the 4 essential molecules made in the body? Nucleic Acids, Carbohydrates, Lipids, and Proteins
What are the different types of nucleic acids found in DNA? Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, & Guanine.
Where does transcription happen? In the nucleus.
What is metabolism? series of chemical reactions that take place inside the body to sustain life. (The body's ability to use the 4 essential biomolecules.)
Nuclear Pore Allows for mRNA to be transported from the nucleoplasm to the cytoplasm to be made into protein, and the reverse.
Epidermis The outermost protective layer of skin that continually builds new keratinocytes and sheds old ones.
Dermis Second and thickest layer of skin that provides nourishment and supports the Epidermis.
Hypodermis Deepest layer of skin that store adipose tissue and insulates.
What are the smaller layers that make-up the epidermis from superficial to deepest. Stratum Corneum, Strata Lucidum, Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Basale.
What two highly adaptive tissues make up the skeleton? Bone and Cartilage
Lamellae Layers of calcified bone matrix.
What is the benefit of red bone marrow? Produces red and white blood cells, along with platelets.
What are some calcium functions in the body? Bone formation, clotting, nerve impulses, muscle contractions.
What is the function of the parathyroid? Helps regulate blood calcium levels through hormone production.
