Axial & Appendicular muscles

| Fascia | External to muscles, bones, other organs |
| Tendon Sheath | Tubelike tunnel around tendon of muscle; lined with synovial membrane |
| Epimysium | Surrounds entire muscle organ |
| Origin | The point of attachment that does not move when the muscle contracts. |
| Insertion | The point of attachment that moves when the muscle contracts |
| Extrinsic | “from the outside” and refers to muscles originating outside the part of the skeleton moved. |
| Intrinsic | “from within,” refers to muscles that are actually within the part moved. |
| Carpal tunnel syndrome | swelling, or any other lesion within the carpal tunnel, presses on the median nerve, |
| Posture | optimal body position |
| tonicity | tension, continuous low level of sustained contraction maintained by all skeletal muscles. |
