| Symbiosis | close relationships between different species where one of the species benefits from the relationship. |
| Mutualism | both species benefit from the relationship |
| Commensalism | one species benefits and the other is not effected |
| Parasite | an organism that lives on or inside another organism and harms the host. |
| Host | the organism that a parasite lives in or on. |
| Ecology | The study of how living things interact with each other and their environment |
| Habitat | an environment that provides an organism with the things it needs to live, grow, and reproduce |
| Population | all the members of one species in a particular area |
| Community | all the different populations that live together in an area |
| Ecosystem | the community of organisms that live in a particular area, along with their nonliving surroundings. |
| Primary consumers | organisms that eat producers; they are herbivores |
| Secondary consumers | organisms that eat primary consumers; they are carnivores |
