stem stalk that support the leaf/flower/fruit of the plant
leaves flat green part of plant where photosynthesis occurs
flower part of plant that contains the reproductive parts of the plant (pistil and stamen), the seeds, and the petals which attract pollinators
autotroph a producer (organism that makes its own food)
photosynthesis the ability to make food from sunlight Needs: Water, Light, & Carbon Dioxide
vascular plants plant that contains tube (vessels) that transport water and sugar
nonvascular plants plants that do not contain vessels and get their water through osmosis
xylem tubes that carry water in a plant
phloem tubes that carry sugar in a plant
chloroplast organelle that contains chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place
angiosperm flowering plant that produces seeds
stamen male reproductive part of the plant
filament slender part of stamen that supports the anther
anther part of stamen where pollen is produced
pistil female reproductive part of the plant
stigma sticky upper part of the pistil that receives the pollen
style slender part of pistil that connects the stigma and ovary
ovary contains ovules which develop into seeds after fertilization
fertilization Fertilization is the joining of a sperm (from the pollen grain) with the egg in the ovule
sepal part of the flower which protects the bud
petal soft, colorful part of the flower which attracts pollinators
pollination transfer of pollen from the anther of one plant to the stigma of another plant
gymnosperm plants that produce seeds that are not enclosed in a fruit or ovary and called "naked seed" gymnosperms are cone bearing non flowering plant
