| To test for Starch | Method - Add few drops of iodine to the food sample Result - Positive: turns blue black Negative: stays yellow-brown |
| To test for Reducing Sugar | Method - Add an equal volume of benedict's reagent to food solution. Heat in water bath for 10 mins Result - Positive: turns brick red Negative: stays blue |
| To test for Protein | Method - Add equal volume of biuret reagent (sodium hydroxide and copper sulphate) to food solution Result - Positive: turns purple Negative: stays blue |
| To test for Fat | Method - Drop or rub food sample onto brown paper. Allow to dry. Result - Positive: a translucent spot remains after drying Negative: no translucent spot after drying |
