| Galaxy | A huge system of stars, dust and gas that is held together by gravity |
| Supernova | An explosion that is billions of times brighter than a star |
| Stars | gigantic balls of very hot gases that give off electromagnetic radiation. |
| Black hole | A point in space with a gravitational field so strong not even light can escape |
| Light year | The distance that light travels in one year |
| Eclipse | Anything that blocks the Sun’s light |
| Solar eclipse | when the moon blocks the Sun’s light. |
| Lunar eclipse | when the Earth casts a shadow on the Moon |
| Constellation | An area in the sky and all of the stars located in there |
| Astronomy | The study of space |
| Astronomer | The person who studies space |
| Telescope | An instrument used to study objects in the far distance |
| Nebula | A could of gas and dust where a new star is formed |
| Milky Way | The name of the galaxy our solar system is located |
| Sun | The star that is the center of our solar system |
| Magnitude | the brightness of a star. |
| Moon | Earth has one natural satellite |
| Low tide | is when a 1st or 3rd quarter moon and sun form a 90 degree angle and exert gravity on Earth’s oceans. |
| Satellite | Anything that orbits another object |
| Craters | indentations caused by rocks or comets crashing into the moon |
