Phenotype The way someone looks physically
Heredity The transmission of traits (inherited features) from one generation to the next.
Genetics The scientific study of heredity
DNA Deoxyribonucleic Acid An organism's genetic material. Double stranded helix
Chromosome A gene-carrying structure found in the nucleus of the cell Genes are segments of DNA in a _______
Allele An alternative version of a gene. (We use letters to represent dominant and recessive alleles)
Traits A variation of a character found within a population, such as purple or white flowers in pea plants
Genotype the code (letters) we use to express the organisms alleles (variations of genes)
Phenotypes the physical features we see on the organism.
Homozygous Used to refer to an organism that has two identical alleles for a particular trait
Heterozygous Used to refer to an organism that has two different alleles for the same trait
Gene code for specific traits are part of an organism's genome
Genome the organisms sum of all of its genetic information
