| What is Deductive Reasoning? | Begins with a fact. The arguer leads from one premise to another premise until reaching a conclusion. |
| What is Inductive Reasoning? | Begins with a specific observation or a set of observations such as an experiment, a statistic, personal experience, etc. The arguer makes a claim based on the observation(s). |
| What is Abductive Reasoning? | Begins with an often incomplete set of data or a specific observation. Then moves to the most possible explanation for that data. |
| What is an Argument? | A coherent series of reasons, statements, or facts intended to support or establish a perspective. |
| What is a Claim? | A statement that something is true or is a fact, although other people might not believe it. |
| What is Evidence? | Source-based information including facts, figures, and details used to support the writer’s ideas. |
| What is a Counterclaim? | An opposing view; a statement made in response or reply to another |
| What is a Plot? | The main plan of a story or text. |
| What is a Setting? | The time, place, or circumstances of the action |
| What is a Character? | An individual in a work of fiction |
| What is Dialogue? | What one character says that may affect how the plot develops |
| What are Actions? | What one character does may affect how the plot develops |
| What are Thoughts? | What one character believes that may affect how the plot develops |
| What are Feelings? | How one character feels toward another that may affect how the plot develops. |
| What is Analyzing? | To study and carefully read a text to understand its meaning. |
