Respiratory movements begin; Increasing movement. 24 weeks
Respiratory-circulatory system shave developed sufficiently; Lungs are immature, but can provide gas exchange. 24-28 weeks
Eyes open and close; Surfactant needed for breathing at birth is formed; Testes descend; Nervous system begins respiratory function; Baby two-thirds its final size. 28 weeks
Has fingernails and toenails; Subcutaneous fat developing; Skeletal system soft and flexible; 32 weeks
Lanugo disappearing. 36 weeks
Fetus ready for extrauterine life; Vernix only increases and skin folds; Lanugo on shoulders, forehead, and back; Firm earlobes; Creases over soles of feet. 38-40 weeks
