Cell Transport
| Term | Definition |

| selectively permeable | some things enter or leave while keeping other things in the cell |
| passive transport | movement of substances through the cell membrane WITHOUT the input of energy |
| diffiusion | movement of particles from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration |
| equilibrium | reached when molecules are equal on both sides of the membrane |
| osmosis | diffusion of water |
| active transport | movement of substances through the cell membrane WITH the input of energy |
| endocytosis | when things ENTER cell, particles surrounded by cell membrane which folds in on itself enclosing item in a vesicle |
| exocytosis | when things EXIT cell, vesicle merges with cell membrane and pushes particles out |
| homeostasis | A state of balance among all the systems needed for the body to survive and function correctly. |
