| Trophic Level | pyramid showing where an organism is on a food chain. Higher levels need less energy. Lower levels need more energy. |
| Habitat | Where an organism lives |
| Primary Succession | regrowth of and area from rock. (Volcanic Eruption) |
| Secondary Succession | regrowth of an area from soil. (Forest Fire) |
| Fossil Fuels | Nonrenewable. Petroleum, oil, coal, natural gas. |
| Nuclear | Made of uranium. Nonrenewable resource. Not a fossil fuel. |
| Hydroelectric | Renewable resource utilizing rivers and dams for energy. |
| Wind Turbine | Renewable resource utilizing wind for energy. |
| Solar Panel | Renewable resource utilizing sunlight for energy. |
| Renewable | Can be used again and again. |
| Nonrenewable | Will run out of this resource. |
| Erosion | the gradual destruction of something. (Soil) |
| Irrigation | System of watering crops. |
| Deforestation | Cutting down large groups of trees. |
| Desertification | the process by which fertile land becomes desert, typically as a result of drought, deforestation, or overused land in agriculture. |
| GMO | Genetically Modified Organism. Organisms (i.e. plants, animals or microorganisms) in which the DNA has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally. |

| Death rate | Rate at which people die in during a time period. |
| Biodiversity | the variety of life in the world or in a habitat or ecosystem. |
| Industrial Revolution | 1800's, a period of technological development that led to developed countries. |
| Developed | A country with a high per capita income, more technology, a developed financial system/government, people having a longer life expectancy and lower birthrates, and a well-developed educational system. |
| Developing | A country that has a lower gross domestic product (GDP) than developed countries, with a less mature and sophisticated economy, usually a lower life expectancy and higher birthrate. |
| Salinity | the dissolved salt content of a body of water. |
| El Nino | a warming of the ocean surface, or above-average sea surface temperatures, in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. |
