| Mercalli Scale | a twelve point scale for expressing the local intensity of an earthquake, ranging from virtually imperceptible to total destruction |
| Divergent Boundary | occurs when two tectonic plates move away from each other |
| Transform Boundary | places where plates slide sideways past each other |
| Convergent Boundary | one of the converging plates will move beneath the other |
