Genetics QU Vocab

TermDefinition
Meiosis The process that creates sex cells so that their chromosomes are reduced by half.
Dominant allele Always shown with a capital letter
Recessive allele Always show with lower case letter
Phenotype Physical appearance or visible traits based on the genotype.
Genotype Genetic makeup or combination of alleles
Heterozygous Has a dominate and a recessive alleles ex. Bb
Homozygous Has two identical alleles ex. BB or bb
Pedigree A tool used to map out the inheritance of traits.
Karyotpe A picture of all chromosomes in a persons body arranged in size and order
Punnett Square It helps predict the probability that a trait will occur in a offspring.
