| revolution | the time it takes an object to travel around its sun. |
| orbit | The path an object takes as it revolves around another object. Earth's orbit as it travels around the sun is an ellipse. |
| rotation | the spinning motion of Earth or any object in space, like a top on its axis. |
| Seasons/Days | These changes are caused by the change in the angle of the sunlight hitting the Earth as it travels around the sun. |
| Axis | The imaginary line around which the earth rotates, extending through the poles. |
| Spherical | shaped like a ball or a globe |
| Solstice | The two days of the year on which the noon sun is directly overhead at either 23.5 degrees S or 23.5 degrees N. |
| Equinox | The two days of the year on which neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun. |
| Vernal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. |
| Autumnal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. |
| Moon Phases | The different appearances of the illuminated portion of the moon as seen by an observer, usually on Earth. |
| Eclipses | Caused by one object passing into the shadow of another object. |
| Solar Eclipse | The blocking of sunlight to Earth that occurs when the moon is between the sun and Earth. |
| Lunar Eclipse | The blocking of sunlight to the moon that occurs when Earth is directly between the sun and moon. |
| Tides | The periodic rise and fall of sea level caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon on the Earth. |
| Gravity | The force of attraction between any two objects in the universe. |
