Rock Cycling

| Weathering | when rocks slowly break apart or change due to natural forces such as wind and rain |
| Igneous | rocks that have formed by the cooling and hardening of molten lava or magma |
| Sedimentary | rocks that are formed from broken down bits of other rocks or even from the remains of plants or animals |
| Metamorphic | rocks that are created when pre-existing rock changes due to heat and pressure |
| Erosion | when rock and soil are carried away by wind, water, or other natural causes |
| Deposition | when pieces of earth are moved and deposited somewhere else |
| Crust | the outermost layer of the Earth |
| Mantle | the thickest layer of the Earth, made up of hot rock and minerals, located beneath the crust |
| Core | the very hot, very dense center of our planet. Made up of two parts, the outer core and the inner core. |
| Fossil | the remains or traces of plants and animals that lived a long time ago |
