Brain Parts

Location and Function

QuestionAnswer
Where is the cerebellum? below the back of the cerebrum
What is the function of the cerebellum? regulates balance, posture, movement, and muscle coordination
Where is the Corpus Callosum? connect the left and right cerebral hemispheres
What is the function of the Corpus Callosum ? allows the left and right hemispheres to communicate
Where is the frontal lobe? top, front regions of each of the cerebral hemispheres
What is the function of the frontal lobe? used for reasoning, emotions, judgment, and voluntary movement
Where is the Medulla Oblongata? lowest section of the brainstem (at the top end of the spinal cord)
What is the function of the Medulla Oblongata? controls automatic functions including heartbeat, breathing, etc.
Where is the Occipital Lobe? region at the back of each cerebral hemisphere
What is the function of the Occipital Lobe? contains the centers of vision and reading ability
Where is the Parietal Lobe? middle lobe of each cerebral hemisphere between the frontal and occipital lobes
What is the function of the Parietal Lobe? contains important sensory centers
Where is the Pituitary Gland? attached to the base of the brain (located between the Pons and the Corpus Callosum)
What is the function of the Pituitary Gland? secretes hormones
Where is the Pons? the part of the brainstem that joins the hemispheres of the cerebellum, located just above the Medulla Oblongata
What is the function of the Pons? connects the cerebrum with the cerebellum
Where is the Spinal Cord? running through the spine (vertebrae)
What is the function of the Spinal Cord? thick bundle of nerve fibers that runs from the base of the brain to the hip area
Where is the Temporal Lobe? region at the lower side of each cerebral hemisphere
What parts make up the cerebrum? Frontal lobe, temporal lobe, occipital lobe, and parietal lobe
What parts make up the brain stem? pons and medulla oblongata
What is the function of the Temporal Lobe? contains centers of hearing and memory
