Binomial nomenclature -> based on genus & speices of the organism (Created by Carl Linnaeus) Two word naming system Bi- Two Binomial- consisting of two terms Nomenclature- naming system
Scientific names are always : (four) Typed in italics Handwritten in cursive and/or underlined Genus name always capitalized Species name always lowercase
Cladogram: A diagram the depicts relationships of derived characteristics amounts organisms Useful for showing how one organism branches off from and other during evolution (evolutionary family tree)
Derived Change from ancestral trait
Phylogenetic Tree: Based on ancestors rather than derived character Branch length = Time
Dichotomous key: A field guide that distinguishes between different species that have been classified -a series of paired statements that describe physical characteristics of organisms
