What are three features of alveoli that help with gas exchange? Only one cell thick (short diffusion pathway), large surface area, good blood supply (is surrounded by capillaries)
Identify the gas which controls the rate of breathing CO2 (heart rate increases when there's to much CO2 in the bloodstream)
Describe the process of inhalation Air comes in through the trachea into the lungs. Ribcage moves up and out while intercostal muscles contract. Diaphragm contracts and flattens. Air pressure in thoracic cavity decreases. Volume of the lungs increases.

What happens to the volume of the lungs during inhalation and exhalation? Inhalation: volume increases Exhalation: volume decreases
What surrounds the trachea? C-shaped ring s of cartilage
What is the difference between the pharynx and the larynx? Pharynx is your throat. Larynx is your voicebox.
