| praetors | 8 upper-class men; judges; could become governors of Roman provinces |
| aediles | 16 upper-class men; took care of public buildings/food supply/entertainment |
| quaestors | 20 upper-class men; managed finances |
| tribunes | represented the plebeians |
| dictator | 1 man (out of the 2 consuls); given power for up to 6 months in a time of crisis; expected to give up power afterward |
| censor | 2 men; absolute power over the census and public morality |
| senators | 300+ upper-class men; had held office previously; advised consul and proposed laws; served for life |
| women | protected by male relatives; no political power |
| slaves and non-citizens | no political protection; no political power |
