gravity The force of attraction between any two objects due to their mass and distance
mass the amount of matter in an object
orbit The PATH one object travels around another object
exerts applies
ellipse a slightly flattened circle or oval
inertia the tendency of a moving object to keep moving in a straight line.
axis A straight line about which an object rotates (north/south on Earth)
rotation A complete spin on an axis
revolution One complete trip of one object around another object
pattern a group of objects or events that repeat in the same order
shadow a dark area or shape that is made when an object blocks a source of light
Earth's tilt 23.5 degrees angles
inertia and gravity work together to keep all planets in orbit around the sun
The reason for the seasons... Earth's axis is TILTED as it ORBITS the Sun
Why we have day and night... the Earth makes one full rotation or spin on its axis.
equator The equator is an imaginary line that separates Earth into two hemispheres__
hemisphere a half of a sphere. The northern and southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons.
seasons winter, spring, summer, and fall
winter less hours of sunlight, cold temperatures
summer more hours of sunlight, warm temperatures
spring and fall moderate amounts of sunlight and temperatures
