| Andante | 76-108 Beats per min (Walking speed) |
| Allegro | 120-168 Beats per min (Lively) |
| Vivace | 168-180 Beats per min (Very lively) faster than Allegro |
| Presto | 180-200 Beats per min (Really Fast) |
| Moderato | 108-120 Beats per min (Moderate speed) |
| Largo | 40-60 Beats per min (Broad and slow) |
| Larghetto | 60-66 Beats per min (Broad not so slow as largo) |
| Rallentando or Rall. | Slowing down |
| A tempo | Back to original tempo |
| Ritendo | Holding back the pace |
| Rubato | Can be flexible with the speed of the music... |
| Staccato | Play the notes shorter than written (Hot notes) |
| Legato | Play the notes smoothly and joined up |
| Tenuto | A straight line over the notes - play notes for full length or even slightly long |
| Articulation | How the notes are played - how much to separate them. |
| Tempo | How fast the notes are played. |
| Slur | Notes played smoothly no breaks = no tonguing or played on one bow length |
