Some Terminology

| What is anthropometric data? | Measurements of human body parts. |
| What is ergonomics? | Making sure the product fits the user so it is comfortable and easy to use. |
| What does CAD mean? | Computer Aided Design |
| What does CAM mean? | Computer Aided Manufacturing |
| What does fusibility mean? | A much heating a material needs to melt it. High fusibility = low melting point |
| What does thermosetting mean? | A polymer (plastic) that is rigid, with high melting point and fire resistant. |
| What does MDF stand for? | Medium density fibreboard |
| What is a composite material? | A material made from two or more materials fused together. Examples include: High carbon steel, Kevlar, Glass Reinforced Plastic, GRP |
| What does FSC stand for? | Forestry Stewardship Council |
| What is a tolerance? | A measurement that something can differ by when cut. Eg +/- 2mm |
| What does PCB stand for? | Printed Circuit Board |
| What does gauge mean? | A measurement - generally of the thickness of a material. |
| What is a rivet? | A metal peg with a head on one side. Used for joining pieces of metal. |
| What is injection moulding? | A tube of softened plastic is inserted into a solid mould. Air is injected into the tube, forcing the plastic to expand to fit the shape. |
| What is a photosensitive material? | One that responds to being exposed to light. |
