5.6 Light
| Term | Definition |

| Frequency | is the number of waves passing a given point in a designated time |
| transverse wave | the direction in which the wave travels is perpendicular to the direction of disturbance |
| Prism | are optical tools used to refract light. It will spread white light into the visible spectrum. |
| Visible spectrum | is the name for the group of colors (ROY G BV) that make up white light and which the human eye can see. |
| Visible light | A form of radiant energy that can be seen. |
| Wavelength | is the distance between the same point in two waves. |
| Reflection | happens when light bounces off an object. A mirror uses reflection. |
| Refraction | happens when a light ray is bent as it passes through different media. An example is when light passes from the air, and goes through the glass of a prism. |
| Opaque | means a medium that transmits no light (all light is absorbed or reflected). |
| Translucent | means that an object allows some light to pass through it but not all, and it will cast a faint shadow. Images cannot be clearly seen through it |
| Transparent | means an object that allows light and image to pass through. |
