5.4 Electricity
| Term | Definition |

| Circuits | are the pathways taken by an electric current. |
| Closed circuits | are complete paths that allow the movement of electrical energy. |
| Open circuits | prevent the movement of electrical energy. |
| Conductors | are materials that allow electrical energy to move through them. examples include metal, copper, water, aluminum |
| Insulators | are materials that do not conduct electricity well. examples include rubber, plastic, and wood |
| Electromagnets | are objects that become magnetic when an electrical current passes through them. |
| Static electricity | is electricity held or discharged by an insulated body. It is the transfer of negatively charged particles between materials. |
