| Mutation | Change in a gene that creates a new trait |
| Selective Breeding | Farmers choose plants or animals that have a specific desired trait and only let these organisms reproduce |
| Genetic Engineering | Changing of an organism’s genes to get rid of unwanted traits or to produce wanted trait |
| Survival of the Fittest | The organisms that adapt best to their environment will reproduce |
| Extinct | The elimination of organisms that are unable to compete |
| Fossils | Remains that show evidence of evolution and extinct species |
| Lamarck's Theory of Evolution | He believed that an organism could get a new structure if it needed it. |
