Mutation Change in a gene that creates a new trait
Selective Breeding Farmers choose plants or animals that have a specific desired trait and only let these organisms reproduce
Genetic Engineering Changing of an organism’s genes to get rid of unwanted traits or to produce wanted trait
Survival of the Fittest The organisms that adapt best to their environment will reproduce
Extinct The elimination of organisms that are unable to compete
Fossils Remains that show evidence of evolution and extinct species
Lamarck's Theory of Evolution He believed that an organism could get a new structure if it needed it.
Theory of Natural Selection Based on Darwin's ideas
Overproduction Organisms produce more offspring than can survive.
Competition These offspring compete for resources and therefore survival.
Variations All of the organisms in each generation are slightly different from each other.
Genetically "Fit" Being fit means that they have the traits that help them compete, survive and reproduce.
