| Ascites | Fluid accumulation if the peritoneal cavity. |
| Aspiration | Regurgitation and passage of fluids into the respiratory tract. |
| Cathartic | Intense, rapid-acting laxative. |
| Chyme | The pulpy acidic fluid which passes from the stomach to the small intestine, consisting of gastric juices and partly digested food. |
| Endoscope | Traditional endoscopic examinations permit direct inspection of hollow, interior organs through a lighted tube. |
| Gluconeogensis | The third process by which the liver maintains blood glucose. |
| Glycogenesis | The formation of glycogen from sugar. |
| Glycogenolysis | The biochemical pathway in which glycogen breaks down into glucose-1-phosphate and glucose. |

| Hepatomegaly | Liver enelargment. |
| Jaundice | A golden yellow skin color associated with liver dsyfunction or bile obstruction. |
| Scleral icterus | Like the skin, the sclera may turn yellow with liver disease. |
