| Food Web | a system of food chains showing different ways energy moves through an ecosystem |
| Producer | an organism that makes its own energy |
| Consumer | an organism that must eat to get energy |
| Predator | an organism that hunts other animals |
| Herbivore | a consumer that eats only plants |
| Omnivore | a consumer that eats both plants and animals |
| Carnivore | a consumer that only eats other animals |
| Decomposer | an organism that decomposes organic material. Examples include bacteria and fungi. |
| Photosynthesis | the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to produce foods from carbon dioxide and water. |
| Energy Transfer | the movement of food energy from producers to consumers. |
| Primary Consumer | an organism that feeds on primary producers |
| Secondary Consumer | organisms that eat primary consumers for energy. |
| Sun | the primary energy source. |
