| Term | Definition |

| Axis | An imaginary line that extends through the Earth's north pole and the south pole; tilted at 23.5 degrees |
| Rotation | to spin on an axis |
| Revolution | Movement in an elliptical path around a center |
| Season Cycle | The cycle of summer, fall, winter, and spring due to variation in intensity of the sun and length of day caused by the tilt of the earth |
| Day/Night Cycle | The cycle of daytime and nighttime caused by the rotation of the Earth about its axis |
| Equator | An imaginary line drawn half way between the northern and southern hemispheres |
| Hemisphere | Half of a sphere; the Earth is typically divided into the Northern and southern hemispheres |
