| Taxonomy - | The study of how scientists classify organisms (living things) |
| Kingdom - | - The largest category in the classification levels. Organisms are placed into this category based on various characteristics. |
| Binomial nomenclature - | Two-word naming system that Linnaeus used to name various species. |
| Genus – | – A group of similar species; first part of scientific name |
| Species - | The smallest group in the classification levels. A group of similar organisms |
| Autotrophs - | Organisms that make their own food (plants) |
| Heterotrophs | Organisms that cannot make its own food and gets food by consuming other living things (animals) |
| Stimuli (or Stimulus) | Any change in an organisms surroundings |
| Response – | A reaction to a stimulus |
| Growth | This is when your cells increase. This causes you to get larger. |
| Development | All of the changes that take place during an organism’s life. |
| Cell - | The smallest unit of an organism that carries on the functions of life. |
| Unicellular | A single- celled organism made of only one cell. |
| Multicellular - | Organisms made of more than one cell |
| Energy | Required to carry out life processes like growing, developing, repairing injured parts |
| Respiration - | Process by which energy is released from food |
| Photosynthesis - | Process using the sun, water, and carbon dioxide to make food (plants) |
| Asexual Reproduction | - Type of reproduction with only one parent; offspring are identical to the parent. |
| Sexual Reproduction - | - Type of reproduction with two parents; offspring is unique. |
| Monera - | Kingdom containing bacteria |
