what is in deoxygenated blood? mostly CO2, little oxygen
what is in oxygenated blood? oxygen, no CO2
can veins regrow? NO! (only capillaries can)
4 main blood types A, B, AB, O
4 main functions of blood transportation, protection, messenger, thermostat
4 basic components of blood plasma, RBC, WBC, platelets
where are blood cells made red bone marrow
describe an artery thick, strong walls, higher pressure, come from heart
describe a vein thinner walls, lower pressure, go to heart
where is oxygenated blood located? arteries
where is de-oxygenated blood located? veins
how does blood act as a transportation system for bodies? brings O₂ to cells and takes CO₂ away, transports nutrients
what items in your blood aid in protection? how do they accomplish this? WBC-destroy foreign material platelets-begin clotting process
why are red blood cells able to carry oxygen? oxygen is attracted to iron in center of hemoglobin protein
what do WBC do? fight infections, clean up debris & dying cells
