| Abdominopelvic cavity | Part of the ventral cavity that lies inferior (below) to the diaphragm. Includes upper abdominal cavity & lower pelvic cavity |
| Anatomical position | (Body position)standing erect with the face forward & the arms at the side (palms & toes facing forward) |
| Cranial Cavity | Part of the dorsal cavity that contains the brain, |
| Dorsal cavity | Body cavity that is located toward the back of the body; divided into the cranial & spinal cavity |
| Frontal Plane | Vertical plane that divides the body into front (anterior) & back (posterior parts); Coronal plane. |
| Homeostasis | Ability of the body to maintain a constant internal environment. |

| Organ | Group of tissues that perform a specialized function, (such as the lungs) |
| Sagittal Plane | Vertical plane that divides the organ or body into right & left parts. |
| Midsagittal plane | Divides the body into right & left HALVES. |
| Spinal (vertebral) cavity | Elongated cavity that contains the spinal cord; the verbal cavity |
| Thoracic cavity | Upper part of the ventral cavity that is superior to the diaphragm; (it is filled largely by the lungs & heart) |
| Transverse Plane | Plane that divides the body into a top (superior) & bottom (inferior) part. |
| Ventral Cavity | Cavity that is located toward the front of body. (divided by the diaphragm into the upper thoracic cavity & the lower adominopelvic cavity) |
