Mixtures and Solutions

TermDefinition
Filter A device used to separate the parts of a mixture by passing the mixture through it
Classify Too arrange or organize according to class or category
Increase To make or become greater; goes up
Decrease To make or become smaller; goes down
Mixture A combination of two or more different substances in which the substances keep their identities. It can be separated.
Solution A mixture that has the same composition throughout because all its parts are mixed evenly. it cannot be separated.
Dissolve To form a solution with another substance
Solute The substance that dissolves in a solvent. For example, the salt in slat water
Solvent The part of the solution that dissolves the solute. Usually has more volume. For example, water is the solvent in salt water
