| fresh water | water that has very little salt in it |
| evaporation | the process by which a liquid changes into a gas |
| condensation | the process by which a gas changes into a liquid |
| precipitation | water that falls from clouds to Earth's surface |
| water cycle | the movement of water from Earth's surface to the air and back again |
| atmosphere | the layer of gases that surrounds Earth |
| oxygen | a gas in the air and water, which most living things need to survive |
| weather | what is happening in the atmosphere at a certain place and time |
| temperature | a measure of how hot or cold something is |
| climate | the long-term weather pattern of a place |
| climate zone | an area that has similar average temperatures and precipitation throughout the year |
| equator | the imaginary line that divides Earth into its northern and southern halves |
| latitude | the measure of how far north or south a place is from the equator |
