Connective Tissue Four Main Types: Fibrous, bone, cartilage, and blood
Muscle Tissue Skeletal (striated voluntary), smooth (nonstriated involuntary), and cardiac (striated involunatry)
Diaphysis Main shaft of long bone
Epiphyses Both ends of a long bone; made of cancellous bone filled with marrow
Articular Cartilage Layer of hyaline cartilage that covers the articular surface of epiphyses
Periosteum Dense, white fibrous membrane that covers bone
Medullary Cavity Tubelike, hollow space in the diaphysis
Mastoiditis Inflammation of the air spaces within the mastoid portion of the temporal bone
Cranial Bones Frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, sphenoid, and ethmoid
Facial Bones Maxilla, mandible, zygomatic, nasal
