| conventional radiograph (xray) | produces 2D image, poor resolution of soft tissues, major use for osteology |
| Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) | high energy magnetic field, 2D or 3D, see fine detail in soft tissues |
| computed tomography (CT scan) | computer assisted radiograph, multiple images used to make 3D views |
| sonography/ultrasound (US) | high frequency sound waves |
| radionuclide scanning | radioactive substance given intravenously, video, SPEC scan |
| coronary computed tomography angiograph (CCTA) | 3D image of coronary blood flow |
| positron emission tomography (PET) | positron injected into body, positive and neg reacting make gamma rays, look at color |
| endoscopy | lighted instrument with lens, stick things down tubes |
