| Control Variable | Any variable that's held constant in a research study. It's not a variable of interest in the study, but it's controlled because it could influence the outcomes. |
| Experimental Variable | (statistics) A variable whose values are independent of changes in the values of other variables. |
| Constants | A quantity that is unknown but assumed to have a fixed value in a specified mathematical context. A theoretical or experimental quantity, condition, or factor that does not vary in specified circumstances. |
| Independent Variable | A variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure. |
| Dependent Variable | The variable that is being measured or tested in an experiment. |
| Valid | How accurately a method measures what it is intended to measure. |
| Hypothesis | A testable statement about the relationship between two or more variables or a proposed explanation for some observed phenomenon. |
| Theory | A well-substantiated explanation of an aspect of the natural world that can incorporate laws, hypotheses and facts. |
| Infer | The process of drawing conclusions based on evidence and reasoning. |
